Every job is assessed with the car's current condition and hardware in mind. After calibration the relevant running parameters are checked and the result verified.
How we work
Pre-check
Diagnostic scan, fault memory and an assessment of the car's mechanical condition.
Data logging
Logs are taken on the existing software; the baseline values are kept for comparison.
Calibration
Loading software prepared for the specific car and hardware configuration.
Verification
New logs are taken and compared with the earlier data; corrected if needed.
How we approach BMW
Factory software on BMW engines is written for a wide operating range and for several different markets. That does not make it the best setting for any one car.
We work regularly on the B48 and B58 petrol engines, the N47 and B47 diesels and the N20 platform. On every job the car's hardware and current condition are what decide the approach.
ECU and ZF gearbox together
To get the benefit of the engine-side work on a BMW, the ZF 8HP gearbox has to be assessed against the same goal. Otherwise the gearbox limits the torque request.
Shift character, clutch pressures and manual-mode behaviour are handled at this stage. The detail is on the TCU page.
Drive mode calibration
More than one character can be defined within a single software file. Close to factory behaviour around town, a sharper response in sport mode.
For a driver who uses the car every day, that separation is more useful than one aggressive setting.
Verification
After the work, boost, lambda, ignition timing, fuel pressure and intake air temperature are checked on the logs. If the values are outside the expected range, the calibration is revised.
